SCOR Mission Statement
The mission of our Specialized Center of Research (SCOR), entitled "Fetal Antecedents to Sex Differences in Depression: A Translational Approach", is to better understand sex differences in the etiology of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), contribute to developing novel clinical treatments for women and men with depression, and eventually to develop sex-specific strategies for depression prevention.
The center focuses on the following goals:
- Facilitate interdisciplinary and translational collaboration among basic and clinical investigators to better understand sex differences in the etiology of depression in women and men.
- Serve as a resource for training future young scientists in conducting interdisciplinary and translational research on sex differences in the brain and the role of these differences in understanding sex differences in psychiatric disorders, such as depression.
- Disseminate findings about sex differences in depression to the scientific and medical communities, policy makers, and the public.
